Volunteer Park after the hail: an unexpected pocket of tranquility
Public Spaces

One of the best parts of residing on Capitol Hill is that it's one of the few neighborhoods in our lovely berg that truly feels city-like. A panoply of cuisines, clubs, bars, theaters, book stores, boutiques, and, obviously, coffee houses are entrenched within walking distance of just about anywhere up here and, as such, there's always an array of things to do.

Which staves off boredom, of course, but also makes quiet and solitude rare commodities. So there was something glorious and unexpected in the tranquility I encountered this morning at Volunteer Park after the hailstorm ceased.

It was like having the park to myself; a brief and welcome respite from scads of deadlines and the cacophony urban dwellers sometimes need to dodge.
