Vivace al fresco: one of Broadway's most resilient establishments | Restaurants

Tucked on Broadway near Thomas St., the outdoor Vivace bustles year-round, but is particularly crowded during summertime, when customers can fetch espresso and rays simultaneously at the adjacent tables. 

"It's fun when it's beautiful out," says Teal, who has pulled shots here for over a decade. "This is urban living in Seattle. You stand here and watch the street go by." His co-worker, Tito, has manned the sidewalk bar for just over two years and agrees that the constant chug of pedestrians adds flavor to his work.

A longtime Broadway staple, it's reassuring this Vivace continues to thrive: within a block and a half, other Capitol Hill lynchpins such as Bailey Coy Books, Cafe Septieme and Broadway Video are reduced to vacant storefronts.
