Panevino: Broadway's most successful new restaurant | Restaurants

For all of us who love Capitol Hill, it's been hugely depressing to watch the recession topple one neighborhood business after another, many of which seemed deeply rooted and impervious to larger financial trends. (Did anyone really think the consistently bustling longtime Broadway hub, Cafe Septieme, would go under?)

So it's been delightful to see the new Italian trattoria, Panevino, filled to capacity night after night since it opened a few weeks ago in between E. Republican and E. Harrison in the south part of Dilletante's old locale.

I've yet to imbibe Panevino's traditional and contemporary Italian fare and wine, but its word of mouth is fantastic so far and, undoubtedly, soon I'll be sampling their ravioli or gnocchi and revelling in the fact there's now Italian cuisine available on the north swath of Broadway.
