Deadly hatchet attack at 15th and Union

Seattle police have arrested a man suspected of murdering another man with a hatchet Monday morning.

Police said the attack happened about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of 15th Ave and Union Street, and the killer ran off.

Officers caught up with the suspect a short time later and recovered the murder weapon. Witnesses initially described it as a pickaxe, but investigators said later that it was a hatchet.

Detectives questioning the 26-year-old suspect and booked him into jail for investigation of murder, but it was not clear what prompted the attack.

Police cordoned off the area near the attack while they collected evidence and interviewed witnesses at the scene.

The name of the 58-year-old man who was killed has not been released.
