So it's downright invigorating to see the new banner unfurled across the awning of longtime neighborhood staple La Cocina on Broadway near E Mercer, "30th Year Celebration!--April 14th".

As anyone who has feasted on La Cocina's reknowned buffet or burritos can attest, the fare is hardly gourmand but remains consistently tasty and satisfying. The portions rival hubcaps in size and the service is usually quite friendly and punctual.

In an era when patrons crave comfort food, it's reassuring that those who provide a scrumptious array of it at reasonable prices might just stand a chance of survival.
