Submitted by Ray Marcham on Saturday, January 30th, 05:26pm

Are you needing help trying to fill out your financial aid forms for college but need help filling out the forms? Or do you even have the forms yet to try and get financial aid? Then Sunday is your day.

The Fourth Annual College Goal Sunday Washington event allows college bound students to meet with financial aid professionals and volunteers who can help one fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA), which is used as the base for most scholarships, loans and grants used to pay for college.

If you're about to graduate from high school or looking to restart your college education, this is a great chance to learn what it will take to get the money needed to attend.

The event goes from 2-4 p.m., and there are several locations throughout the region where the event will take place.  Those locations include:

Man's story about "found" TV eventually leads to burglary arrest

Submitted by Ray Marcham on Saturday, January 30th, 10:20am

An officer's hunch about a man carrying a TV on 10th eventually led to the man being arrested for burglary, Seattle Police have said.

The officer saw the 37-year-old man walking on 10th on Thursday and stopped the man to ask him where he had gotten the TV.  The man said that he had found it and was taking it home, but the officer was wary about his story.  So he released the man, but took the TV, created a Found Property Report and put it into evidence.

Later in the day, a burglary was reported in the same area that the officer had spotted the man with the TV.  Looking at the video from the scene, officers determined that a man seen stealing a TV was the same man who had been stopped earlier.

On Friday morning the man was spotted on the 800 block of E. Pine Street.  An officer stopped the man, verified his identity, arrested him and took him to the King County Jail, where he was charged with burglary.

A search for the best pho in town

Submitted by Rose Egge on Friday, January 29th, 04:20pm

The Staff at Seattle University's campus paper The Spectator have done the leg work. Now, here are their findings on the best Pho on the hill:

Than Brothers Pho

Tucked into an unobtrusive retail space on Broadway Avenue between East Republican Street and East Mercer Street, the only bad thing about Than Brothers Pho is how difficult it is to find. The sign on their window simply reads “Pho,” and you won’t realize you’re in the right place until you are seated with a menu that advertises by name.

But everything else about Than Brothers is perfect. Their shop has a friendly and informal atmosphere, and their pho is fantastic. It’s also dirt cheap. Don’t be fooled by the four different sizes of pho they offer; their small dish (for a college-student-friendly $4.95) offers a meal and a half worth of food, and their “x-large” bowl of pho could probably feed a family of four with leftovers to spare.

Guided tour of two landmark First Hill mansions

Submitted by Rose Egge on Wednesday, January 27th, 03:11pm

Ever wonder about the historic homes in your neighborhood? Well you can check out two of them on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Historic Seattle and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation will lead public tours of two important Seattle historic homes, the Henry H. Dearborn House (1907) and Stimson-Green Mansion (1899-1901) at Minor Avenue and Seneca Street on First Hill.

Tours provide insights into the architecture and interior design of both homes, as well as a lively look at the life and times of First Hill at the turn of the 20th century. First Hill was the location of private clubs, important religious institutions, and swank hotels.

The need for tweed

Submitted by Amy Roe on Tuesday, January 26th, 01:08pm

Members of the London-based Tweed Cycle Club ride for style, not speed.  They eschew Lycra, spandex, and other modern  “technical fabrics” for glen plaid caps and herringbone knickers, and adjust their pace accordingly. No need for “wicking,” if you don’t break a sweat.

This type of sartorial cycling is gaining momentum. It spins through Seattle next month.

Kindly mark Feb. 21, noonish, on your schedule, and join, them, won’t you? A friend in tweed is a friend, indeed.
